Where it Began…

The idea of a competitive BBQ was started in 2008 with a Backyard competition held on the festival grounds of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. It was a one day event and attracted 13 competitors. It was a new experience as a fund raiser but proceeds were small. In 2010, Smokin’ in the Square was born and included professional and backyard teams. Each year, this event has grown to where it is today with an average of 50 pro teams and 25 backyard teams. Proceeds have increased from $4,000.00 given to charity in 2010 to $25,000.00 given to charity in 2018 with total charitable donations raised by this event exceeding $50,000.00. Our chairman and organizer, Ivan Delabruere, spends countless hours working with our core team planning each year’s event. Without the support of our members and our local sponsors, this would not be such a success.

Feed My Sheep

Feed My Sheep is a vibrant and active St. Paul Catholic Church Parish outreach ministry that provides nutritious hot meals for the homeless primarily through the Alfred-Washburn Center in Pensacola. Volunteers in this active ministry "live" Christ's love through their ministry to and for the "least of His brethren" among us.

Since many of you ask us, “If we can’t taste or sample the food that is prepared for the BBQ Competition, what happens to all of it?” Well… Parishioners from St. Paul are on site with their coolers and they go team to team collecting all the food that was prepared for the competition. Once they have collected from all the teams they take the food to the Alfred-Washburn Center here in Pensacola. Once there, staff prepares hot meals for the homeless and poor of our area.

NO FOOD IS THROWN AWAY IN COMPETITION!
